What Is the Over and Under Bet?
Almost all bookmakers nowadays offer the ‘over and under bet’ on their websites. It is a bet that is worth considering especially in case of football matches. Sometimes also known as the ‘betting the total’, the over and under bet is placed on the predicted results of certain match. The total number of combined points/goals scored in any particular match is the outcome we referred to. In UK this kind of bet can be placed on sports like tennis, rugby and most popularly on football.
A good knowledge about the sports or the related team will help you know which is best suited to place an over and under bet. Though such a bet can be placed without any prior knowledge of the sport, it can bring disastrous results to the bettor. It is not a very complex bet to understand and has two options. We will take the following example to make you understand the betting structure. Say Liverpool is playing West Brom and the bookmaker offers you an over and under bet of two and half goals. The odds of over 2.5 goals is at 4/5 and the under is 13/8. Now you as a bettor have to predict whether the total goals in the game will be more than 2.5 (Over) or less than 2.5 goals (Under).
The bet of 2.5 goals is the most common bet offered by the book makers for football betting. But some also offer under and over bets at 1.5 goals and 3.5 goals. You can get your over and under bet some weeks in advance of certain big events but punters must be very careful before placing this type of bet so early. It may be better if you place your bet close to the start of the event because any injuries to players or suspensions can completely turn the game upside down. The over and under is a simple bet offering a good alternative to a straight win.
